Project Description
A 2014 grant from Hopkins Art teacher Kelly DaRosa blends science, math, and engineering with art and design.
This cross curricular grant impacts all students at Hopkins School, providing them with a glass kiln which helps study glass fusion and slumping. The kiln can also be used for other materials like clay.
Glass Fusion is a technology based, hands on learning experience allowing students to create unique glass sculptures that are fused or slumped (melted into a mold) inside the glass kiln. Students must use critical thinking and problem solving in developing their designs for the slumping process.
