Inspiring Tomorrow’s Innovators Today 

EMC Grant for Mathematics and Science

This grant will introduce Robotics to 3rd Grade students.  Using LEGO Education WeDo Robotics Construction sets, students will engage in cross-curricular (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) lessons that emphasize the design process and help to develop problem-solving skills.

(un)Wired for Success 

This grant funds a pilot program using Chromebook laptop computers to create 1:1 learning environment at the elementary level.  Laptops will be integrated into the daily language arts curriculum of two 4th grade classrooms to explore the use of digital portfolios, interactive projects, blogs, educational applications and research tools.

Math is Amazing

Renzulli Learning, an online individualized Math enrichment program, will be piloted and evaluated by four 4th grade and four 5th grade classrooms with funding from this grant. Renzulli enables students to work at their own pace on activities that match their individual interests and learning style.

Preparing Students for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Careers in our Global Economy

This grant introduces a rigorous and innovative STEM curriculum into the required course load of all Middle School students.  Funding will support the integration of Project Lead the Way’s (PLTW) hands-on, project based curriculum which has been collaboratively designed by educators, engineering and biomedical professionals, university educators and school administrators to promote critical thinking, creativity, innovation and real-world problem-solving skills.  Three new curricular units will be introduced including “Design and Modeling,” “Automation and Robotics,” and “Energy and the Environment.”  In addition, PLTW brings to the school professionals from local industries who share workplace experiences and opportunities for students to visit and learn in the field.

Transforming World Languages at HPS: Building Digital-Age Language Labs for our Students

Stephen Gray Innovation Grant

This grant supports the creation of a mobile, digital-age language lab for students to build second language competence through real-life interactions.  Digital Language Lab (DiLL) software offers creative, engaging, and user-friendly learning opportunities for students to practice speaking, listening, and writing in a second language.  Teachers will have the opportunity to monitor students in real time and provide instant feedback. The project will benefit from new, state-of-the-art software and professional development while leveraging existing hardware and infrastructure within the district.

Lessons in Innovation

This Professional Development grant funds membership and conference fees to the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).  Online professional development and curriculum resources will be created in Moodle to share the approaches, tools and resources discovered at the conference.
